Mr. Aquino began designing gowns
to satisfy the need for garments to showcase jewelry and accessories made
by designers participating in Couture Fashion Week, the prestigious New
York City event. The enthusiastic reaction from audiences and the press
encouraged him to create entire seasonal collections of evening and
cocktail ensembles starting in 2008. Since then his fashion designs have
appeared in major fashion and lifestyle publications worldwide, websites
and TV outlets, and have been presented in Europe, the Caribbean, New York
and Palm Beach to great reviews.
Mr. Aquino’s background in art, writing, poetry, theater and fashion show
production shines through in his fashion designs. “There was a strong
element of romance in the fashions of the bygone era of glamour, which is
another inspiration for me,” he notes. “Glamour is back and I believe each
woman is in some way her own fashion designer. A designer creates a
concept, but it is the woman wearing the gown who makes the final decision
as to how she wants to wear it and bring it to life by choosing the
finishing touches such as jewelry, bag, hat, and shoes that are
complimentary to the look.”
Dubbed the “Urban Renaissance Man” by Latino Future magazine, Mr. Aquino
derives inspiration for his designs from sources as varied as the
architecture of the legendary city of Casablanca, the art deco themes of
South Beach, the buzz of New York City, as well as the elegance and
grandeur of the French Riviera. A recurring theme is the endless pursuit
of beauty as his muse. Combining elements of dance and fashion, his latest
collection is a tribute to the inner and outer beauty of women around the
globe.
“I want the collection to have sex appeal yet be classic and wearable,”
says the designer. His most recent collection represents a progressive
evolution of wearable couture and includes cocktail dresses and evening
gowns ideal for the lover of jewelry and accessories. The creations are of
rich French, Japanese and Indian lace, luscious chiffon, charmeuse and
silk, among other fine fabrics. Impeccable hair styling for the fashion
show will be done by stylist-to-the-stars Federico Calce of Federico Salon
in New York, and makeup will be done by Hollywood film and fashion makeup
artist Mahealani Diego.
Stunning actress Angelica Bridges and the pop group "The Strawberry
Blonde," will be performing at the event. Angelica Bridges a former
Baywatch star headlines the group of sultry sirens and sings the lead
vocals. She will be walking the runway for Mr. Aquino’s show. Mr. Aquino
